Tom Petty Makes me Wonder: when is one too old to dance?

We had the great big fortune to go to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert last night, compliments of my fav brother-in-law, Dale, and his wife, Jane. What a FANTASTIC show, if you like Tom Petty that is. From the first song, I couldn’t stop dancing and singing along. There’s nothing like knowing the words to almost every song. Here’s the set list:

08/13/08 – Set List From Edmonton, AB Concert

August 12- Rexall Place, Edmonton, AB

YOU WRECK ME
LISTEN TO HER HEART
I WON’T BACK DOWN
EVEN THE LOSERS
FREE FALLIN*
MARY JANE
END OF THE LINE
BREAKDOWN
SAVING GRACE
A FACE IN THE CROWD
HONEY BEE
LEARNING TO FLY
DON’T COME AROUND HERE NO MORE
REFUGEE

RUNNIN’ DOWN A DREAM
MYSTIC EYES
AMERICAN GIRL

I was lost in Petty’s unique voice, his velvet smoking jacket, the ever-awsome wonder of the musicianship of the Heartbreakers, and the lighting. After the show over beers, Dale and his friend Scott teased me about how much I danced. They made me think that some day, I’ll look silly dancing my heart out and my butt off. Then again, maybe I won’t worry about it. If TP can still rock like he does at 57, why the heck can’t I dance along with him?!

If you’re a fan, check out the new movie trailer. Better yet, travel across the country if you have to to see him.
